About Us

 Meet our Leadership

Mikey Sanchez, the founder of our league, is pictured the left alongside his daughter-in-law, Mia Sanchez Cordero, our dedicated Director. Together, they strive to create an organized and successful league that remains accessible and affordable for all families. Their commitment to teamwork and community ensures a positive experience for everyone involved. On our right is David Diaz, a vital part of developing the older segment of our league for 9-13 year-olds. David works to ensure our older kids are improving, that operations run smoothly, and that everyone is a great time. His dedication to fostering a positive environment makes a significant impact on our young athletes' experience.

Our Story

Welcome to the Humboldt Park Youth Baseball League, a cherished community tradition revitalized by Mikey Sanchez in memory of his son, Giovannie. With a deep passion the game, Giovannie exemplified the spirit of baseball, and through this league, we honor his legacy. Our mission is to teach young athletes fundamentals of baseball while instilling values of teamwork, respect, and commitment. Join us as we create lasting memories and foster a love for the game in the hearts of our youth.

Age Divisions Designed for Every Stage of Development

Youth baseball programs often divide players by age to ensure they learn skills appropriate for their stage of growth. This program offers four clear divisions:

  • Tee Ball (2.5 to 5 years old): This division introduces the youngest players to baseball basics. Using a stationary tee instead of live pitching helps kids focus on hitting, catching, and throwing in a supportive environment.

  • Coach Pitch (6 to 8 years old): Players start to face pitched balls thrown by coaches. This helps them develop timing and hand-eye coordination while still receiving plenty of encouragement.

  • Coach Pitch or Player Pitch (9 to 11 years old): At this stage, players can choose between continuing with coach pitch or trying player pitch. This flexibility allows kids to progress at their own pace.

  • Player Pitch (12 to 13 years old): Older players face live pitching from their peers, preparing them for more competitive levels of baseball.

Each division builds on the skills learned in the previous one, creating a smooth transition as children grow and improve. This structure helps players gain confidence and enjoy the game at every step.

What to Expect from the Season

The season begins with practices starting in April. These sessions focus on skill development, teamwork, and understanding the rules of baseball. Coaches work closely with players to ensure they feel comfortable and excited about playing.

Games start in early June, giving players the chance to apply what they’ve learned in a fun, competitive setting. The schedule balances practice and play, so kids stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed.

Parents can expect a supportive environment where sportsmanship and respect are emphasized. The goal is to foster a love for baseball while helping children develop physically and socially.
